The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said it is continuing its nationwide strike on the advice of university students.
President of the union, Dr. Nasir Isa Fagge said:
“Our students have come out to say they don’t want us to call off the strike until the Federal Government answers us, because they don’t want us to call off now and later we go back to strike again. So, we are heeding the advice of our students”.

Professor Osayuki Oshodin
University of Benin (UNIBEN) Governing Council recently sacked 44 staff of the institution allegedly involved in allegations that bordered on gross misconduct...see the names of the affected staff HERE. But since the decision was taken, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Osayuki Oshodin, says he has not had peace. Recuperating from alleged food poisoning, he raised the alarm that some of those sacked by the university Council were after his life.Prof. Oshodin alleges that some of the sacked staff were involved in sexual harassment, extortion and fake admissions which resulted in the rustication of 142 students...see what he said below:
We learnt your life is being threatened and that you were even poisoned recently?
Yes I have been passing through hell but I am not afraid God is my protector. It is these people that lost their jobs that are threatening my life and, as we are speaking, they have not given up. So if anything happens to me, all of them should be held responsible, especially one particular man who is fond of writing frivolous petitions. He is being used, others are hiding under him to perpetrate the crime but we know all of them.
The problem is that there was so much corruption in the university before I took over as VC and they wanted me to do it the way they ran the place before and I said no. I want this place to develop, I have more at stake in this university than any one of them. I know how the land was given to the Federal Government for the university to be sited there, part of it is my family land.
Click Here For More...There was no compensation paid to us, but we did not make noise about it, yet some persons think they can colonize the place with their corrupt practices. I was even poisoned by these people but I survived.

Edo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Louise Odion, said that Governor Adams Oshiomhole was determined that ensure that Daniel gets the best education, regretting that the seeming crack between the mother and the father affected the upbringing of the boy.
Click Here For More...Odion said: “Edo State Government is already taking steps to ensure that Daniel gets not just material but also psychological support to enable him achieve his God given potentials. As a doting parent himself, Governor Oshiomhole has followed the development closely. As a matter of fact, he personally engaged Daniel.
The lingering strike action embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Chairman, Kogi State University Chapter, Sylvester Osakwe Ukwuteno, has said the union is ready to fight until their request is granted, even if takes more than a year, as he noted that Ghana experienced a year and some months strike before the government came to their senses and the outcome is currently obvious, “we would do even more till our request is granted,” he stated.

Candidates who cheat during examinations conducted by the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, now risk a five-year jail term under an amendment to the 2004 WAEC Act being proposed by Federal Government.
Under the proposed amendment, examination malpractice will fetch five year jail term for offenders or the option of N200,000 fine or both.

The latest ranking of tertiary institutions in the World by Webometrics has ranked the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi as the best in Africa and by implication the best in the country....in 2011 they were also ranked the best in Nigeria...see it HERE.
The latest ranking also showed that Auchi Polytechnic retained its position as the second best tertiary educational institution in Nigeria.

The mild drama occurred during the verification of certificates of primary school teachers in Edo State.
One teacher, Mrs. Augusta Odemwinge in Asologun Primary School, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state could not read a sworn affidavit she purportedly tendered as part of her credentials...what a shame.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole was forced to asked her: “if you can't read, what do you teach the pupils, what do you write on the board?”

UNIBEN - 1999When the posters came up on the hostel walls that there was going to be a Talent hunt show coming up which was organised by Femi Akinwunmi, I quickly registered for it as a rapper. The star price was a CD player..my dream. I imagined being able to replace our old cassette player and put on a CD like the rest of the boys.
I practised my lines and waited for d-day. 3 days to the event, I woke up with fever and to find my body covered with little sores...I had chicken pox. I used calamine lotion like my life depended on it, but they only seemed to increase by the day.
